Tips to Wash Your Hair the Right Way

Have you ever wondered if there is a right way to wash your hair? Washing it every day may not help if you make some of the most common mistakes. However, using the correct techniques will make a world of a difference and will help make your hear look much healthier – bouncy and shiny once again.

Firstly, always start washing your hair with a rinse of hot water as this helps open the cuticle, which is great for removing any dirt or perhaps product that is still trapped within the hair. What most people don’t know is that whenever you rinse your hair with warm water, this helps loosen the oils through the scalp and opens the cuticle so that it is able to absorb this oil. Secondly, should you have a long hair, always condition first! For all the women with hair beneath the shoulders, it is important to protect the fragile ends from drying out and one way to do that is to apply a small amount of conditioner through them and lightly rinse, before shampooing the whole hair. Thirdly, the only place where you actually need to shampoo your hair is at the scalp itself. The best way to lather up your hair is to do so from the roods to the ends. The youngest hair and the oiliest one is the hair closest to the scalp, whereas the end of the hair is the oldest and driest. Try not to use more shampoo than you actually need.

A general dosage is a quarter-sized amount of shampoo, unless you have particularly long or tick hair in which case you can double that amount. In any case, always be gentle with your hair as any friction can permanently damage your hair’s cuticle, more often than not leading to breakage and frizz. The way to wash your hair is the same as to how you wash your delicates. In order not to tangle your hair, always remember to wash it using vertical strokes with medium pressure than circular motions. In terms of the fragile hair ends, do not scrub them or use a back and forth motion. Another tip is never to rinse and repeat. In spite of what most women are used to, there is no need to wash your hair twice. Doing one shampoo only is more than sufficient, except of course, unless the hair is extremely dirty and one shampoo doesn’t make the cut. In terms of the conditioner, remember to apply it from the mid-lengths to the tips. Avoid putting conditioner at the hair roots as the natural oils are concentrated in the scalp. Once you are done with the shampoo, try to squeeze all the water from the hair before putting on the conditioner. Once applied, put your hair up using a clip and finish showering. The trick is the longer you keep the conditioner on, the better it will absorb. Lastly, if you can, always try to rinse your hair with cold water. The cold water will make the cuticle shut tights and seal the outer layer, thus causing it to reflect the most light and ultimately give off the most shine, as desired by every woman.

Keeping in mind these tips next time you wash your hair, will make you see a change in the way your hair feels and looks!
