The Most Expensive Gemstones for Jewelry and Private Collections


Gemstones and jewelry are used by the rich and famous as a reflection of social status, lifestyle, and wealth since ancient times. There are some very expensive gemstones for jewelry, ornaments, and accessories. Some gemstones are showcased in museums and private collections, including red diamonds, jadeite, blue garnet, serendibite, painite, and others.

Painite has a brownish or orange-red color and costs up to $60,000 per carat. It is one of the rarest gemstones and contains small amounts of chromium, vanadium, and iron. Grandidierite is extremely rare and mostly found on Madagascar. The bluish-green gemstone costs $100,000 per carat. Different types of garnet are offered, including yellow, red, brown, black, purple, green, pink, and orange. Blue garnet, however, stands out. It is extremely rare and very expensive, mined in Turkey, the U.S. and Russia. One carat costs $1.5 million. Red diamonds are even more expensive and are in high demand. They are sold for $2.5 million per carat. The largest red diamond is owned by the Moussaieff jewelry house and weighs 5.11 carats. The Graff diamond was sold for over $2.6 million and is presently owned by Laurence Graff. It is purplish red in color. Black opal is less expensive and is used to make rings and other pieces of jewelry. One carat costs $2,355. Opals are found in a range of colors, including yellow, white, brown, blue, rose, red, olive, and green. You will find pendants, rings, and other pieces. Other expensive and rare gemstones include red beryl, bixbite, and serendibite. Some expensive gemstones adorn necklaces and rings. Satladas, for example incorporate rubies, diamonds, emeralds, and pearls. Emerald earrings can be very expensive. A pair of earrings worn by actress Angelina Jolie at the Oscars is valued at $2.5 million. A diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co. can cost you $10 million. A diamond necklace crafted by L’Wren Scott and worn by Nicole Kidman costs $7 million. The necklace is adorned with over 7,000 diamonds and took 6,200 hours to make.

While these gemstones are mostly found in private collections and jewelry houses, there are many gemstones that are used to adorn dresses and pieces of jewelry. Jewelry houses offer gemstone necklaces, pendants, earrings, and rings adorned with sapphires, pearls, amethyst, diamonds, and blue topaz. There are beautiful pieces of jewelry adorned with gemstones such as rose quartz, aquamarine, black onyx, and emerald. Jewelry houses offer jewelry made from white gold, platinum, gold, and silver. Some pieces are made from rose gold. They are adorned with white sapphires, rhodolite garnet, and blue sapphire. Other gemstones are also used, including London blue topaz, pink tourmaline, yellow sapphire, and alexandrite. They are exquisite, elegant, and of the highest quality. Some jewelry houses even offer the option to select a different gemstone for your ring or bracelet. They offer rings encrusted with a diamond and green amethyst, diamond and blue topaz, and white sapphire, diamond, and green amethyst. Gemstones are offered in different combinations and are delicate and extremely beautiful.
